The Journey
The 600m walk to your PurePod takes you through picturesque farmland with Mt Karangahake commanding your attention the entire way. Keep your eyes and ears open for native birds, Kereru, Tui, Fantail, and Kingfisher as they accompany you on your journey.
Pack light! A small backpack makes your short trek much more enjoyable.
When Darkness Falls
As daylight fades, prepare for nature's own light show. The unpolluted night sky transforms into a dazzling display of stars, while the soothing sounds of the Waitawheta river create the perfect soundtrack for serenity.
Listen for the distinctive call of the Ruru (morepork) owl after dark - the nocturnal guardian that gives this special place its name.
Beyond The Pod
While it's tempting to never leave your glass haven, adventure awaits nearby. Explore the historic tunnels of Karangahake Gorge or hop on a bike for the Hauraki Rail Trail experience - one of New Zealand's iconic Great Rides with local rentals available. Follow the private track to a hidden swimming hole the locals simply call "paradise," then continue to the Windows Walk or through the tunnel to Dickey Flat.
For a different pace, Waihi town offers charming cafés and dining just minutes away, or drive 20 minutes to Waihi Beach for coastal walks. Day-trippers can reach Whangamata for swimming, surfing, and boutique shopping, or journey to the magical Hobbiton in Matamata for a touch of Middle-earth wonder.
