Mākoha Pure Pod
Peace, Privacy, and a View That Stays With You
Description
Suspended in the treetops with only birdsong and river whispers for company.
Set high in the native forest just outside Kerikeri, Mākoha PurePod feels like a modern glass treehouse, completely cocooned by towering kauri, tōtara, and mānuka trees. Here, time slows to the rhythm of birdsong and the soft sound of a river weaving its way through the bush below.
Protected by a Queen Elizabeth II covenant, this sanctuary reflects the landowners’ deep commitment to conservation - offering you not only a secluded place to stay, but the chance to be part of something beautifully preserved.
It’s just a 10-minute drive from Kerikeri, yet feels a world away.
The Journey
Your adventure begins with an easy 10–15 minute forest walk from the carpark. The trail takes you through ancient native bush, where every step is accompanied by the call of tūī, pīwakawaka, kererū, and even the occasional kingfisher. You may hear a kiwi if you're lucky.
Keep your bag light, a small backpack is best and let the forest set the tone for what’s to come.
A Forest Hideaway in the Canopy
Tucked into the tree line and surrounded by green, Mākoha PurePod offers a peaceful perch above the world below. You’ll feel gently suspended in nature, with glass walls letting in every view and every sound - sunlight filtering through the canopy, the gentle rustle of leaves, and the ever-changing soundtrack of native birds.
Though you might catch a distant hum from the nearby Kerikeri airfield, no one will see you here. It’s just you and the stillness.
Inside, the PurePod has everything you need: a luxurious bed with forest views, a gas hob and BBQ for cooking, a stylish bathroom, telescope, games, books, and that rare luxury - space to simply be.
Explore or Stay Tucked Away
Kerikeri is one of Northland’s most charming towns, known for its history, artists, and fresh local produce. Venture out to browse art galleries, stroll the markets, chase waterfalls, or treat yourself to a wellness retreat.
Or don’t. Some days are made for staying in. Stretch out on the deck, listen to the birds, and let this peaceful place work its quiet magic.
