Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses

Sleep in the treetops, dine from the land, and wake to whales on the horizon.

Experience

At Hapuku Lodge, the line between luxury and nature blurs. Wake to the sight of deer grazing beneath your treehouse, then venture out for whale watching, surfing at Mangamaunu Bay, or cycling through scenic trails. The lodge's commitment to sustainability is evident in its solar-powered facilities and native tree reforestation efforts, ensuring your stay contributes positively to the environment.

Stay

Tree Houses

Set high in the treetops, more than 10 meters above the forest floor, five Tree Houses are nestled in a native Kanuka grove, offering a truly unique escape in the heart of nature. There are three one-bedroom Tree Houses, perfect for couples, and two Family Tree Houses, each featuring a master bedroom above and a second, cozy bedroom below.

Designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings, the Tree Houses offer panoramic views of Kaikōura’s rugged mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Large windows flood each space with light, inviting the outside in. Each one-bedroom Tree House includes a fireplace, deep soaking tub, and bespoke furniture for a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Family Tree Houses mirror the same comforts upstairs, with a dedicated children’s room below, complete with twin beds and a separate bathroom, ensuring both privacy and convenience.

Lodge Suite and Rooms

All of the Lodge rooms are a suite, offering a deep soaking tub, king bed, and a private balcony with views over the farm’s deer paddocks and the dramatic Kaikōura mountain range.

The two Lodge Suites feature a spacious lounge and a separate bedroom, providing extra room to relax. The light-filled Hapuku Room is elegantly furnished with a fireplace, writing desk, and private entrance, perfect for those seeking a quiet and restful escape.

Olive House

Formerly home to the farm’s olive press, the Olive House has been transformed into a warm and inviting three-bedroom retreat. Surrounded by native plantings and open paddocks, this free-standing residence offers space, privacy, and comfort, ideal for families or up to three couples.

Upstairs, a two-bedroom suite features a generous lounge and expansive windows that bring in natural light and views of the landscape. Downstairs, a separate guest room with wheelchair access provides added flexibility and comfort. Whether booked as a full house or split between levels, Olive House is a serene place to unpack, stretch out, and settle into the rhythms of this unique setting.

Taste

Dining at Hapuku Lodge is a celebration of local flavors. The on-site restaurant sources ingredients from its organic garden and local producers, crafting dishes that reflect the region's bounty. Whether it's freshly caught crayfish or garden-grown vegetables, each meal is an authentic taste of Kaikōura's rich culinary landscape.

Explore

Kaikōura's diverse ecosystems offer a plethora of activities. Embark on marine safaris to witness whales, dolphins, and seals in their natural habitat. Hike the Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway for breathtaking coastal views, or visit local vineyards for wine tastings. The lodge's location serves as a perfect base for both relaxation and adventure.
