Cabot Lodge is situated on 2,000 acres of farmland bordering the Fiordland National Park, a renowned World Heritage Site. The property is home to over 7,000 animals with sheep, deer, cattle, chickens, beehives and two miniature horses.
There are a number of walks for guests of all fitness levels to enjoy while on the property. Guests can climb to the highest peak of the farm for breathtaking views, or wander down to the secluded jetty on the peaceful Waiau River for a romantic picnic or a spot of fishing.
Guests can feed and cuddle our horses and pet sheep at their leisure, and meet our top staff member, Sam the sheep dog, for pats and tummy scratches. For those wanting a more in depth understanding of New Zealand farming, both beekeeping tours and 4WD farm tours are available to book. We recommend letting your hosts know you would like to enjoy an on-farm experience when making your reservation, as bookings are limited.

Explore
New Zealand is a thrill seekers paradise and Fiordland is no exception. The best way to explore the vast landscape of the Fiordland National Park, New Zealand's largest national park, is from above. Soaring over the lakes and fiords enables visitors to explore untouched areas of Fiordland. From the air, visitors will have the chance to see hanging valleys, fly over waterfalls, land on top of snow capped mountains and glide over mirror-like lakes. Cabot Lodge can also offer guests the amazing opportunity to take off and land from our private jetty by sea plane, one of the only private sea plane landings in the country. Guests can even tick off one of New Zealand's Great Walks from above, soaring over Lake Te Anau and landing atop Mount Luxmore, before taking on the downhill section of the famous Kepler Track, to receive a ‘taster’ of this New Zealand bucket list activity.
For guests that want to experience the majestic and awe-inspiring fiords, jet boating is breathtaking in every sense. A visit to Cabot Lodge would not be complete without taking a trip along the picturesque and powerful Waiau River, which runs alongside the Cabot Lodge property. While jet boating along the river, guests will enjoy the thrills of the twists and turns, as well as learning about the history of the area from local guides. There are also plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning surroundings captured in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Guests of Cabot Lodge are also offered the opportunity to explore farther afield to Lake Hauroko, jet boating out to the coast of New Zealand, (next stop Antarctica!) to explore the type of wild beauty only found on the edge of the world.
